Light Housekeeping Services for Seniors
Your seniors have gone their entire lives without needing help with ordinary tasks like light housekeeping. Over time, however, they may find that their mobility or health is not what it used to be. Menial household chores become a challenge. Whatever the case, should the time come when they can no longer meet that challenge, the caregivers at Senior Home Care of Tucson are here to help.
What Does Light Housekeeping for the Elderly Entail?
Housekeeping and house cleaning services for elderly can mean anything the individual client needs our caregivers to do. There is no one-size-fits-all solution or routine that we stick to for every client. Instead, we work closely with our clients and their loved ones to come up with housekeeping services that are ideal for each client’s unique needs, abilities, and inabilities. We provide all sorts of house cleaning help for the disabled, as well as for able seniors who have need of an extra pair of hands. Some examples of tasks we complete for clients include:
- Washing linens
- Changing beds
- Light dusting and tidying up
- Decluttering the home
- Organizational help for seniors
- Removing safety hazards, such as clutter in the walkways
- Eliminating health or sanitation threats
- Sweeping and mopping floors
- Doing laundry
- Cleaning dishes
- Emptying the sink/dishwasher
- Grocery shopping
- Meal and snack preparation
- Mail retrieval, mail organization, and bill pay
- Organize and simplify paperwork
- Making things more easily accessible in the home
- Pet care – feeding, dog walking
- Tasks for other family members (respite)
In general, we perform tasks that age and disabilities can compromise, such as bending, stooping, light lifting, and helping a senior get organized. Our main goal is to help seniors maintain safe and sanitary homes while being able to enjoy simplified, more efficient daily lives. No matter what this looks like, we’ll do our best to get the job done. If our caregivers notice something that’s outside of our range of abilities, we’ll recommend one of our partners who can take care of the task for you. Our caregivers make notes every day, so our office staff stays informed about the particular needs of each client.
*For the safety of everyone involved, we don’t move heavy furniture.
More Than Just a Clean House
At Senior HomeCare of Tucson, we aren’t maids – we’re caregivers. That’s an important distinction that makes what our team offers truly special. Our goal is not just to clean our client’s home. It’s to find out what would make each client’s life easier. If that’s help sorting through junk mail and paying bills, that’s what we’ll do. If it’s taking a carload of old clothing to Goodwill, we’ll handle that as well. Sometimes it’s something as simple as recommending that a client with arthritis switch from a hand-held can opener to an electric one. We do what needs to be done to improve our client’s daily standard of living – pure and simple.
Here’s an example: one of our clients with a mild form of dementia had one closet beneath the stairs that was particularly cluttered. We paired her with a caregiver who loves organization, and it was a match made in heaven. After a few visits, our caregiver had completely decluttered, cleaned up, and reorganized the closet. Our client could easily get into the closet, read the labels, and find what she was looking for. We made her life easier and prevented her from having to put herself in harm’s way to get something out of the closet.
To us, housekeeping is a personal matter. It’s about taking care of tedious or hard-to-do tasks for our clients, but it’s also about a joint effort between the caregiver and the client to achieve an efficient, healthy, and happy home. We match up the personalities of the caregiver and client for the right fit each time and tailor our services to the unique needs of the client. Our light housekeeping service is about so much more than just cleaning – it’s about creating a happier home for your loved one.
